Letter Writing Inspirations
Creative Birthday Postcards
Do you remember receiving postcards from family or friends as a child, with lovely pictures of the places they have visited?
My favourite postcard I ever received, I kept in a scrapbook for years until it got burnt in a bushfire and the shed it was stored in burnt down. My mum and Nanna had traveled to America and visited The Cabbage Patch Factory…I was about 10 at the time and I was fascinated with it. The postcard was such a treasure for me.
Who needs postcards or cards?
These days postcards are not a very common keepsake, instead we have photos galore taken from smartphones of our latest travelling adventures on Facebook. That’s not a bad thing of course but we have had a few Lettuce Write subscribers (AKA Lettuce Writians) ask us what they can do with the blank postcards they have received in their subscription boxes. If you are a subscriber or just someone who has the stationery and sticker bug I have a fabulous idea and treat for you that comes directly from one of our Lettuce Writians!
Why Buy A Birthday Card When You Have A Lettuce Write Subscription!
Lettuce Write subscriber Kylie replaces birthday cards with a postcard from her subscription and then she personalises it for each of her friends or family members who’s birthday it is. Each postcard contains a simple birthday message and then she hand picks every sticker according to the recipients interests and personality. I absolutely love this idea! When you personalise your cards or gifts, they carry so much more meaning than the “Oh, I need to get a birthday card, hmm, this one sort of suits the person”. Plus it really doesn’t take that long when you have all the materials on hand at home.
Here are a few of Kylie’s latest birthday postcards she has made and then sent out:
Want to get creative yourself?
If Kylie’s clever little birthday card hack has inspired you to do the same or similar you can purchase a postcard pack from the store or better still, get a bunch of materials for card making, scrapbooking, journalling, writing to pen pals etc. by purchasing a monthly sticker and stationery subscription.
I hope this post has inspired you to create something crafty and personalised for someone’s birthday or other special occasion. If you need more inspiration here are some more card making ideas.
Thank you for sharing your idea and amazing creativity with us Kylie!

Wow M-Jo! Thanks for the lovely write-up. I really do enjoy making these little cards as it does catch the recipient by surprise. All my friends at work all have their birthday sticker cards stuck up on their boards or by their desks and family keep them on the fridge. I love to give effort instead of stuff.
Can’t wait for my next subscription box!
P.S – The camping theme stickers just keep on giving! My friends notice the odd sharp knife or mosquitoe amongst the ballerina slippers, which always gets a chuckle.

Haha. That made me laugh. I love hearing that they display them afterwards because a store bought card usually doesn’t last too long on the mantlepiece compared to these lovely creations. Thanks again for sharing them with us!
